Java Jazz Festival 2014 Review

by - March 07, 2014

Hello hello! It's been 1 week since the annual Java Jazz Festival and i still feel jazzy hangover from the event. This is my 4th Java Jazz and the progress from year to year is quite impressive. A lot of the facilities and crowd controls have gotten better. As this is their 10th year anniversary, the biggest jazz festival in SE Asia is definitely celebrating it the right way with more popular artists and entertainment.Enjoy my photo diary and review on the second day of JJF 2014, Saturday! :D

I managed to watch 5 shows last Saturday and that is quite a lot compared to my last years. The first show i watched was Bass  , who plays the saxophone with such an amazing talent. I've been quite a fan since he played as a back up saxophone player for both Barry Likumahuwa Project and Tompi in JJF 2013. But since he hasn't been on sight for like a YEAR, i was quite surprised to see him and his sister, Gadiz on the schedule for Java Jazz this year! But sadly her sister couldn't come due to flight complications. I enjoyed the show so much from the front row and was absolutely awed. The show was also interesting with various guest stars like Nicky Manuputty, Ray Monte, and Barry Likumahuwa.

The second show was Tulus, an artist i've been eyeing for a while. He played a lot of songs from his new album "Gajah" which i wasn't familiar with but all of the new bits are really good. And i mean THAT good. My favorite song from "Gajah" is definitely Satu Hari di Bulan Juni. It has a really witty line "Kamu cantik meski tanpa bedak" which makes me smile every time i hear it. Tulus' show was a full house and the best thing is that everyone sang along with their whole hearts throughout the show. So cool!

Beside the two, i also watched Incognito and Earth, Wind, and Fire Experience but didn't manage to snap a single pic because i was too far away from the stage and the hall was super cramped with people. Incognito's vocals were amazing and kept us captivated while Earth, Wind, and Fire Experience was super fun visually and musically. Can't help laughing when EWF 's members danced with their oldies choreography! Summer Horns was the perfect closing for this year's Java Jazz Festival experience for me. Dave Koz,Mindi Abair, Gerald Albright, and Richard Elliot rocked the stage as saxophone quartet covering legendary songs. Their playfulness on stage was really entertaining and fresh so they really lighten up the audience. The second i heard their first song, i swear to myself i'm gonna find their album. What i love about Summer Horns were the unique composition to the songs and strong stage presence. You can literally feel how they're having a great time on stage and enjoy their music.

So that's my quick review of this year's Java Jazz, hope you've had the same great time as i had! Have a wonderful weekend and don't forget to comment below xx
